Palmerton Concourse Club disperses donations

The Concourse Club of Palmerton is always happy to share with the community.

In April the club sponsored a very successful 10th Annual Spring Basket spectacular which was held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Social Hall in Palmerton.Even though there were fewer baskets donated this year ticket sales were up from 2009.A bake sale and hot lunch items were also sold during this fun event.Each year the club disperses the profit made during the spectacular to Palmerton and surrounding area organizations and fire companies.Darlene Risteter, Chairwoman for the Ways and Means Committee gave a short presentation during the check dispursement which took place at the Palmerton Area Library."'There is nothing stronger than a heart of a volunteer' is a 1942 quote from Lt. James H Doolittle a United States General in the Air Force and it is so appropriate for this evening for all of you volunteers," said Risteter.She announced those who were present to accept the donation for their personal organization.Organizations that had a representative present to accept the donations were Palmerton Memorial Park, Special Olympics of Carbon County, Veterans Memorial, Palmerton Area Historical Society, Lehigh Gap Nature Center, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Palmerton Community Band, Carbon County Environment Education Center, Palmerton Area Recreation Committee, Palmerton CACPAC, Palmerton Area Library, Carbon County Special Olympics and Towamensing, Palmerton and Aquashicola volunteer Fire Companies.A total of nineteen organizations were recipients of the 2010 donations.All decisions of the disbursements of funds are made final by The Concourse Club Advisory Board.The Concourse Club of Palmerton is celebrating their 95th year as an organization under the leadership of President Susan Choy.The club's annual membership drive will continue in August and those wishing to find out information on how to become a member can contact Joan Turko at 610-826-7755.
