Police are investigating child abduction attempt

Lansford police are investigating an incident of attempted child abduction.

The incident occurred one day last week as two children were playing outside in the 300 block of the east end of Snyder Avenue. Patrolman Chris Ondrus said two white men in a dark blue 1980s or 1990s van stopped. One man got out of the van and tried to pull a child into it. A relative of the children intervened, pulling the child away from the man.The vehicle was seen again in the area a few days later, Ondrus said.Unfortunately, the police were not notified of the incident until a couple of days after it happened, reducing the chance the men would be caught.A second suspicious incident occurred on Monday, when two girls who were playing outside in the 500-600- block of East Bertsch Street at about 8:30 p.m. said a man wearing glasses and driving a red Chevy car stopped and asked them if they wanted a ride. Another car pulled up behind him, and he drove off.Ondrus urged people to immediately contact police in such situations.
