Area players nominated

The Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete Foundation will hold its annual banquet honoring the area's top soccer scholars on January 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fullerton Fire Company.

Several area students will be among the honorees.Dillon A. SmithJim ThorpeSmith is a four-year member of the Olympian soccer team, serving as captain his junior and senior seasons. The center midfielder was named to the All-Schuylkill League team the past two seasons.He finished his career with 22 goals and 21 assists Smith also is a four-year member of the wrestling team and has been a team captain the past two years. He has over 100 career wins, set a school record for wins in a season and was named to the PIAA Class 2A All-Pennsylvania wrestling team.Smith ranks fifth in his class and has served on student council for four years. He has served as the SADD treasurer and is a member of the Junior Rotaria. Smith also volunteers at the food pantry and with the knee-hi wrestling program.Smith plans on majoring in finance and attending either Lehigh or Columbia.Jonathan BehlerLehightonBehler is a goalie and defender for the Indian soccer team, finishing this season with one goal.He is a member of the Palette Club, PVT E-2 PA National Guard,

C.E.T. Student Electronics and Salem Bible Fellowship youth group.Behler also acheived the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 187.He ranks 14th in his class and plans to major in electronics in college.Martin EverhartNorthern LehighEverhart is a four-year member of the Bulldog soccer team, playing center mid.In 2006 he won the rookie award for outstanding performance and he was named the team MVP following the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He also served as team captain those years. He finished his career with 10 goals and 60 assists, including 20 his senior year.In 2008, Everhart placed first in the state and fourth in the region in the Stock Market Game. He is a two-year member of the Northern Lehigh basketball team and has volunteered with the American Red Cross. He has been a Level 8 soccer referee for three years.Everhart ranks 55th in his class and plans to major in international business at a four-year college.Tyler HarsheyNorthwesternHarshey played center back on the Tiger soccer team for four years. He scored 10 goals and recorded 18 assists in his career.He was named the team's defensive MVP after the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In 2008, Harshey was named to the All-Colonial League's second team and in 2009 he was an honorable mention selection.Harshey is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the president of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). He won the Rensselaer Medal in 2009.Harshey ranks sixth in his class and plans on majoring in mechanical engineering in college.Jesse ReisPalmertonReis is a four-year member of the Bomber soccer team, playing stopper and defenseman. He had two assists in his career.He has earned varsity letter in soccer and baseball and was the JV captain of both teams as a sophomore.Reis is the class secretary and a member of the FBLA and National Honor Society. He also won the Senator Rhodes Good Citizenship Award.Reis ranks second in his class and will major in marketing at Penn State.Ryan HabickPleasant ValleyHabick was a defenseman for three seasons on the Bears' soccer team. He scored three goals in his career and had 15 assists.He served as team captain and was named to the Mountain Valley Conference's first team as a junior and senior. As a sophomore, he was a second team selection.Habick ranks 44th in his class.
