Monroe man facing burglary charge

A Monroe County man is facing burlgary and related charges after he was found outside a building where a break-in was reported in progress. Slatington police said the incident began about 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Hilltop Texaco, 208 N. Walnut St.

Borough police responded to the area after receiving a report of a buglary in process. Walnutport police also responded and assisted. Upon arrival officers searched the building and found a white male inside a Chevrolet S10 pickukp truck parked to the rear of the building. The man was identified as Michael E. Wanamaker, 46, of 49 Hillside Place, Kunkletown.Police said the property owner and some other witnesses heard noises coming form inside the old Hilltop Texaco and called police. The owner discovered that there was an attempt to remove copper tubing from inside the upstairs apartment.Police said they recovered two hack saws that were left at the scene.Wanamaker was taken into custody and after processing at the police station taken to the Lehigh County Central Booking. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and theft. He was remanded to the county prison after arraignment.
