Commonwealth honors area centenarian

Recently the Commonwealth Pennsylvania House of Representatives, sponsored by the Honorable John J. Siptroth, recognized Beatrice Haney May upon her 100th birthday. She received a citation congratulating her on this momentous occasion.

Mrs. May has been a resident of the Getz Personal Care Home in Kunkletown since February 2009.Her birthday was celebrated by three generations of loving family and friends as well as Getz staff members and residents.Mrs. May was born in Ross Township on Nov, 29, 1909 and attended a one-room school house as a child and continued to reside in Ross Township most of her life. She worked as a clerk at the Saylorsburg Post Office for more than 50 years. A bench was placed at the post office and dedicated in honor of her service.Mrs. May and her husband, Ted, were blessed with one daughter, Jean Williams. With her daughter and son-in-law, Walt, she has traveled nationwide, visiting numerous National Parks and Disney World. In addition, she enjoys house plants and completing puzzles.It was a joyous celebration for this very special woman who has generously contributed to the well-being of others and who has enriched so many lives through her wisdom and experience.
