Two new fire police members were sworn in Thursday during Towamensing Township’s monthly board of supervisors meeting.

On March 7, Jessalin Stepp, 19, and Adrian Holthausen, 18, both of Towamensing, raised their right hands and swore to defend the U.S. Constitution, the state of Pennsylvania and the township as members of the Towamensing Volunteer Fire Company.

Both Stepp and Holthausen had to take a 16-hour class before being sworn in as fire police.

In other business

• The township received a check from the Carbon Conservation District in the amount of $37,070. It was a partial reimbursement for a dirt and gravel road project on Walnut Drive, which was completed in 2018.

• Supervisors accepted a letter of intent from John Kleintop to serve as a member of the Zoning Hearing Board. Supervisor Penny Kleintop, who is married to John, abstained from the vote.

John will serve as an alternate on the board.

• Supervisors approved advertisement of bids for landfill and transfer station services.

• Supervisors asked the planning commission to review a proposal from Save Carbon County. The resolution would publicly state that the township “objects to the practice of tree cutting until such time as the PennEast Company has received all necessary permits, including those from the state of New Jersey, for the construction of a gas pipeline,” according to its text.
