State police report Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating the following crashes on Schuylkill County roads over the past weekend.

A hit-and-run accident was reported at 2:50 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot of the Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township. Troopers said a driver was backing out of a parking space and traveling southbound in the lot while Lindsay M. Andrews, 19, of Pottsville, was traveling eastbound through the lot operating a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.For unknown reasons the operator who was southbound failed to see the other vehicle and struck the Cobalt from behind. After impact the driver backed up and left the scene traveling southbound through the lot toward Route 61.Andrews was not injured. The hit-and-run vehicle was only described as being orange.A one-vehicle crash occurred at 6:08 p.m. Saturday along Route 209 between Port Carbon and Saint Clair.Troopers said Matthew C. Johns, 56, of Shillington, Berks County, was northbound operating a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 truck and attempting to turn into a parking lot in an attempt to turn around when his truck struck a utility pole. The left front wheel hub of the truck hit the pole with the wheel coming off.After impact the truck traveled northwest through the parking lot before coming to rest.Johns and his wife, Lisa A., 51, were not injured. Troopers cited him for driving on roadways laned for traffic.Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:07 p.m. on Sunday along Route 25 (Main St.), in Hubley Township.Troopers said Rebecca Strauser, 36, of Dalmatia, Northumberland County, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck westbound when the weather suddenly changed from heavy rain to icy road conditions.Strauser failed to negotiate a left curve and lost control of the truck due to icy conditions. The truck left the road and struck a pole along the south berm with the front end.After impact the truck began to spin northwest in a counter-clockwise direction with the front seat passenger, a 9-year-old male, ejected through the right side window.The truck continued to spin through the west and eastbound lanes and came to rest facing northeast along the westbound lane.The male ejected from the vehicle and another male juvenile, age 10, were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville (SMC-S), for treatment. Strauser and a 6-year-old male were not injured.The road was closed for about an hour. Troopers cited Strauser for driving too fast for conditions.Troopers investigated a crash at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, March 30, along Route 209 in Port Carbon borough.Troopers said Aaron J. Booterbaugh, 23, of Pottsville, was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee southbound when he failed to negotiate a right-hand turn onto Mill Street. As a result his Jeep struck a utility pole, disabling the vehicle.Booterbaugh fled the scene and left his passenger, Skylar Andruchuk, 21, of Pottsville, with a head injury in the vehicle.Andruchuk was taken to the SMC-S, for treatment. Booterbaugh was not located but was identified as the driver, troopers said. He is facing multiple charges.
