The Pleasant Valley School Board approved a feasibility study to be performed to determine if the existing high school can be renovated to meet the future needs of the district or if a new high school would need to be built.

KCBA Architects’ proposal for the study was approved at a cost of $6,500. The company will review the needs of the district to determine the best recommendation for the future.

It was also reported that the Pennsylvania Department of Education has approved the waiver of two school days for Pleasant Valley Elementary School and three school days for Pleasant Valley Intermediate School in response to the request of the district as a result of having to deal with mold at PVI at the beginning of the school year.

Director Russell Gould reported that the Athletic Committee has approved the retirement of Schyler Herman’s jersey. Herman was a goal tender for the girls’ varsity soccer team who passed away on Oct. 31 after a 13-month battle against leukemia. The retirement ceremony will be held at the first home game next fall.

Gould also reported that the committee has scheduled the dedication of the new fitness room for April 29. The fitness room is being dedicated to alumni Chris Hixon. Hixon was the athletic director of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, who was killed during a mass shooting at the school last Feb. 14.

Director Donna Yozwiak reported that she was approved as Vice Chairwoman for the Joint Operating Committee for the Monroe Career and Technical Institute for this coming year.

There were a number of intermural adviser positions approved for the balance of the school year. The appointment of Alex Wunder as adviser for boy’s soccer was not approved. Wunder’s co-advisers would have been Matt Gould, Connor Phillips and Chris Lusto.

Directors Dan Wunder and Delbert Zacharias were absent from the meeting and director Gould abstained from the vote. Len Peeters, Laura Jecker and Donna Yozwiak all voted no.

High School Principal Matt Triolo addressed the board in recognition of School Board Appreciation Month.

“Administrators like myself are able to do what we do because of the support of the board members,” Triolo said. “You make it clear that you are here for the students.”
