Palmerton Area Library celebrates National Library Week

Palmerton Area Library celebrated this year’s National Library Week, April 7-13, with special story times, a teen writing challenge, bookmark contest, kids scavenger hunt, and even a story time for adults.

The library is continuing special activities throughout the month of April.

• On Sunday, the Friends of the Library is hosting a concert featuring Seasons, a fusion of Celtic and roots music on harp, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, fiddle and more. The concert starts at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

• For art lovers, the annual photo show will take place from 2-4 p.m. April 28. Tickets to the show are $3 and light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

• April is “Food For Fines” month at the library. Patrons may substitute one nonperishable food item for each $1 owed in fines. All food will be donated to the local food bank in Palmerton run by CACPAC. Donations of food and personal products (soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.) will be accepted from anyone during the month as a service to the community.

• National Library Week is also a celebration of the people who support the library. This year, the American Library Association theme was Libraries = Strong Communities. Palmerton exemplifies this idea. 1,285 volunteer hours took place at the Palmerton Area Library in 2018, building strength in the library and in the community. The library is grateful for these volunteers and grateful to serve such a supportive community.

Check out the library website at www.palmertonarealibrary.com for other activities and services of the library. The library is also on Facebook.
