Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary meets

The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on Oct. 12 at the Post Home with President Christa Kattner presiding.

Two petitions for membership were presented and approved, with one being an annual and the second being a life membership. General Orders 3 were read and filed for action.

The Poppy King, Queen and the court will be in the annual Veterans Day Parade to be held in Lansford on Nov. 11; members are invited to participate also.

The annual Children’s Christmas Party was discussed with final approval for the day pending Post approval; further details to follow.

Under Americanism, a new letter will be prepared for the Hometown Heroes Program for 2019; the number of banners will be restricted to poles available. Members were encouraged to vote in the upcoming election on Nov. 8 and encouraged to “Get out the Vote.”

Under Veterans and Family Support, 34 cards were sent and two online petitions were signed for veterans legislation.

A recruitment table was set up for both the Post and Auxiliary at Rocktoberfest.

Buddy Poppy Days at Redner’s will be held Nov. 2, 3 and 4; support both your local unit and disabled veterans by wearing a Buddy Poppy.

To date, no entries or inquiries have been received on either the Voice of Democracy or Patriot’s Pen programs; deadline for both is Oct. 31.

Under Community Service, 159 hours were recorded by members present.

Preliminary plans for the 70-year anniversary of the Auxiliary were discussed, further information as plans are finalized. The Past Presidents plaque will also be updated.

Donations were approved for all the department sanctioned hospitals and programs and the department president’s special project, which is the liver transplant program. The National Home Health and Happiness fund and Pa. cottage #3 at the National Home will also receive donations.

Mary Arieta was appointed as patriotic instructor and Lewis Hirochek as banner bearer. The open position of trustee will be filled at the next meeting, which will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Post Home.

A date for the Auxiliary Christmas party will be set at that meeting.
