Nesquehoning Borough Council
Nesquehoning Borough Council, discussed or acted on the following items during its special meeting on Wednesday.
• Granted a lot line revision at a property in the Hauto Valley Estates.
• Voted to advertise for bids for the borough’s sanitation contract. It was noted that a mandatory prebid meeting will be held for potential bidders and it will be stressed that due to a bear problem in the town, a schedule and route should be set to make sure trash pickup times are the same weekly unlike the current hauler, which picks up at various times throughout the day.
• Work is moving along on the unit 2 renovation project at the sewer plant. Eastern Environmental, which was contracted for the project, is working in liquidated damages due to problems that arose with the work that wasn’t being done correctly the first time. Council said it is hoping that the project will be wrapped up by June 29.
• The borough is moving forward with sending out registration information to residents about CodeRED, a one-call system that allows residents to receive a phone call or text message alerting them to a weather emergency, street closures, water main breaks and more. So far about 425 mailers have been sent out, with the rest going out over the next several weeks. Council asks that residents fill out the form and return it to the borough as soon as possible.
