Nature center schedules songbird program

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Carbon County Environmental Education Center will host Dr. Chris Goguen of Penn State University for an evening lecture on local woodland birds.

Goguen will give an overview of his research into the veery, one of Pennsylvania’s more secretive woodland birds. Goguen has spent years in the field, monitoring and tracking these robin relatives through nesting, breeding and fledging. He’ll share nesting videos, and demonstrate radio-telemetry equipment used to follow the birds through their life cycle.

The program is free, open to and suitable for all. Preregistration is required.

For more information or to register, call 570-645-8597.

The center is located at the west end of Mauch Chunk Lake Park along Lentz Trail, just outside of Jim Thorpe.
