Lehighton state police investigate crashes

State police at Lehighton reported investigating two crashes Friday.

A one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:10 p.m. along East Fireline Road in Parryville, Carbon County. Troopers said Kathy A. Campbell, 68, of Palmerton, was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus westbound in the right lane when she passed a sign that stated, “no winter maintenance.” After passing the sign she lost control of her vehicle on the road that was covered in ice. The car rear end spun counterclockwise and made impact at its right rear quarter panel with a tree along the right berm. The rear end then spun clockwise and made a second point of impact at its front left tire with a tree where it came to rest.

Campbell was not injured. The Taurus had to be towed. Campbell was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

A second one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:32 p.m. along Route 534 in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Anthony L. Speziale, 58, of Kresgeville, was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup on the wet and icy road when he attempted to slow down. The vehicle hit a patch of ice causing Speziale to lose control. The truck traveled over the centerline and onto the right berm. It traveled along the shoulder and struck a mailbox.

Troopers said Speziale then fled the scene. He will be cited for the crash.
