Hearing intrusion

We are writing to address an intrusion into the Lansford Zoning Hearing Board’s executive session for deliberation of the application for variances for the Lansford Palace LCC proposed St. Luke’s building project on Aug. 24, 2017.

Upon completion of interviews, questions and answers, from Mr. Joseph Bennett, attorney Michael Garfield, the Zoning Hearing Board and members of the public, the executive session was ordered. At that time the public, including “all” persons not involved in the deliberation, were required to depart the meeting room. Approximately 15 minutes into the deliberation process a person at the front door of the meeting room was signaling for attention. Attorney Greg Mousseau, solicitor for the Zoning Hearing Board, opened the door and was advised that Rose Mary Cannon, vice president, and Jill Seigendall, secretary-treasurer to the Lansford Borough Council, remained in the meeting room. Mousseau interrupted the meeting, found the two people and ordered their immediate departure from the room.

No excuses are proper, even though one was made, and none will be accepted, particularly from a person of Rose Mary Cannon’s stature, experience and long service on the Lansford Borough Council both as a member, the vice president and president. Her understanding of the rules for an executive session go back over 20 years and yet she knowingly, unethically remained hidden behind the divider screen. Rose Mary’s actions require a censure from the borough council, and Jill Seigendall should be reprimanded for staying when not requested to do so.
