Carbon homeless task force conducts count

Carbon County’s Homeless Task Force will be going around the county on Jan. 22 in the hopes of getting a more accurate picture of the homeless population and finding ways to help.

On Wednesday, the task force, in partnership with the Carbon County Action Committee Human Services and Family Promise of Carbon County, will be holding several events throughout the county as part of the homeless count that will be taking place.

According to the group’s flyer, they are asking for “the community’s assistance in encouraging individuals and families who are currently experiencing homelessness — or are at risk of homelessness” to join them at one of the locations set up throughout Carbon County that day.

At each station, people will provide those in need with a warm space, snacks, meals at some of the locations, resources and someone to talk to about the person’s situation.

Locations where stations will be set up include:

• Lansford: American Fire Company, 26 E. Patterson St., from 5-7 p.m. Hosted by the St. Vincent de Paul Society Panther Valley.

This location will also offer a hot meal during the event.

• Lehighton: 267 S. Second St., all day. Hosted by the Carbon County Action Committee.

• Lehighton: 167 S. Third St., 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hosted by Family Promise of Carbon County.

• Nesquehoning: 126 W. Catawissa St., from 5 to 7 p.m. Hosted by Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church.

• Summit Hill: 1 W. Hazard St., from 4 to 6 p.m. Hosted by the Summit Hill Heritage Center.

• Weatherly: 333 Third St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Hosted by Zion Lutheran Church.
