The West End American Legion Auxiliary is slated to meet at 6 p.m. today at the post home on Fairgrounds Road in Gilbert.Planning meetingThe West End Park and Open Space Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.PVEN boardThe Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville.Mission mealThe West End Mission Meal at our Lady Queen of Peace in Gilbert will be available for those in need from 4:40 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday.The Knights of Columbus meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday.Changed meetingThe Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education meeting scheduled for Thursday has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 18. It begins at 8 p.m. and is held in the Administrative Center in Brodheadsville.Youth fundraiserZion Lutheran's Youth Group will do a fundraiser, including a car wash and a hoagie sale, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Hoagies will be made that morning.Next Wednesday the church is again hosting a free community dinner at 5 p.m. RSVPs are appreciated but not necessary. The number to call is 570-992-6988.Food pantry openThe West End Food Pantry at the Eldred Community Center in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It serves the West End of Monroe County and neighboring towns.Clients coming to register are asked to bring a photo ID and, if possible, their own bags.Driver refresherAn AARP Driver Safety class will be held at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville for two Saturdays this month.The class is designed for those drivers age 50 and older. There are no tests and membership in AARP is not required. Classes are set for this Saturday and next Saturday. They run for four hours, beginning at 1 p.m.There is a fee. Contact Roland Vonderheide at 570-619-4006 for more information and to reserve a place in the class.Winery fundraiserThe West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a wine-tasting fundraiser at the Blue Ridge Winery, on Blue Ridge Road in Saylorsburg, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.In addition to the tasting, the event will include a tour, music by George Baier, a basket raffle and more.Tickets are available at Ross and Chestnuthill townships or from any board member.For cost and other information, visit

The next session at the Kresgeville church is this Sunday right after the 9:30 a.m. service. It will end around noon and lunch is included.The church will also celebrate Holy Communion at its 9:30 a.m. service and there will be a blessing of the mission group. That group is leaving Sunday for a week in Blue Knob (Altoona), Pennsylvania, returningJuly 22.Sunday supperThe community meals are beginning anew at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.A Sunday supper will be served from 4:40 to 5:45 p.m., both this Sunday and next.Jam sessionThe Eldred Township Community Center hosts musical jam sessions at noon on Mondays. Drop by with your instrument or just go to listen. There is no cost, but donations are appreciated.On Tuesday it will be a crochet class at 7 p.m. with Dottie Jeker. All levels of skill are welcome.
