A Carbon County man, who assaulted two ambulance attendants who responded to give him aid, and who also struggled with police officers in another incident, was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday. He was one of six defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Lehighton incidentKarl Allen Frable, 23 of Lehighton, was sentenced by Nanovic to serve six to 18 months in the county prison on two counts of simple asssault and one of persistent disorderly conduct.Frable was arrested on June 6, 2010, by Lehighton police for assaulting Jarad Yeastedt and John Reinbold, two ambulance attendants, who responded to the area of 225 Iron St. for a report of a man down.Upon arrival the ambulance members found Frable in a highly intoxicated condition. When they attempted to adminster aid to him he fought with them. Police said he spit on the two and punched them.He was arrested on June 27, 2010, when borough police were called to his home at 126 S. Eighth St. for a disturbance. Frable was under the influence of alcohol.Frable fought with officers Frank Buonaiuto and Robert DeFuso. He was charged with counts of assault and other offenses but pleaded to the conduct charge in a plea bargain.Frable told Nanovic he had an alcohol abuse problem and has sought help by entering a rehabilitation program and continues to receive counseling.Frable, who said he was suffering from depression and used alcohol as a medication to help himself, apologized for his actions.In addition to the jail term Nanovic ordered Frable to get both a drug and alcohol (D&A) and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, and imposed zero tolerance on D&A use. The jail term will be followed by one year of probation, Nanovic also ruled.Frable, who was given credit for 25 days spent in jail on the charges, will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 16.Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Mark A. Dietrich, 20, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of misrepresentation of a controlled substance.Dietrich was arrested on March 16 in Summit Hill. Agents of the state Attorney General's office used a confidential informant (CI) to make a purchase of heroin with Dietrich. When Dietrich arrived at a pre-determined location in the borough to make the sale he was arrested.Found on his person was three packages of an unknown type controlled substance. A test revealed it was not heroin but crushed tablets.Nanovic noted that Dietrich has a prior criminal record that is growing and that he was on probation/parole at the time for federal charges and counts in Schuylkill County.Nanovic sentenced him to serve six months to one day less 24 months in the county prison followed by one year of probation.He was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation, supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, and render three hours of community service per month when on parole.Deitrich, who is in the county prison, was given credit for 44 days spent in jail on the charge.Emily Anna Ahner, 22, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on March 10 by Mahoning Township police at her residence.Police responding to the home to assist members of the county's adult probation office who were investigating a possible probation violation by Ahner.She admitted to a heroin addiction problem and is getting counseling for it and plans to enter a rehabilitation center.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered she get a D&A evaluation and render three hours of community service for each month while on probation.Katrina Marie Vandling, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft, a felony three. She was arrested on Dec. 20, 2010, at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. She attempted to steal $46.83 worth of merchandise.She told Nanovic the items were children's toys and clothing for her young child. She said they were going to be Christmas presents for the child.Nanovic said he was concerned because Vandling had prior retail theft convictions which raised the rating to a felony and was on probation at the time of the latest arrest. She had a probation violation hearing pending and is currently in the county prison on a probation violation detainer.Nanovic placed her on probation for two years and ordered she supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.Brandon Paul Anthony, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of stalking. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for stalking Heather Wagner at her residence along Autumn Lane, in Penn Forest Townshihp, and other locations in the township.It was noted that Anthony and the victim had a prior relationship which produced a child in which Anthony has vistitation rights.Nanovic sentenced him to time served (27 days in jail) to 18 months and ordered he has no contact with Wagner and render three hours of community service per month while on parole.Dale N. Schleicher III, 31, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of false reports. He was arrested by Lehighton police for an incident on June 8, 2010.Schliecher's motorcyle was involved in a crash in the 600 block of Mahoning St. Tanya Wentz, 39, of Lehighton, was operating the bike when it crashed into a utility pole. Wentz died as the result of injuries sustained in the crash.When first questioned about the accident, Schleicher claimed Wentz had stolen the bike. He later admitted he gave her permission to use the bike.Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he pay a fine of $500, get a D&A evaluation and imposed zero tolerance on D&A use.Each defendant must also pay all court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
