Outwardly, it was an opportunity for business owners to showcase their respective products and services to a variety of visitors.

Internally, their hope was that the Carbon County Home, Garden, and Business Expo 2014 offered enough to not only pique their interest, but also their patronage down the road. The Expo, held recently at Blue Mountain Resort's Valley Lodge in Palmerton, afforded businesses the chance to promote their company as a sponsor, exhibitor or both.Tim Boldt, marketing manager of AJ Window & Door Solutions of Shoemakersville, Berks County, chose to exhibit his family-owned and operated business.Boldt said his company, which won the Angie's List 2013 Super Service Award, specializes in windows, roofing, siding and sunrooms."This is an opportunity to service this community," Boldt said. "We're a family-owned business that gives a good product for a good price."Ned Biege, owner, Palmerton Garage Doors, said he felt honored to be a part of the expo."It's nice to see all the people come out," Biege said. "We're hoping to expand our business by helping the local community."The Expo featured display trailers, ATVs, motorcycles, RVs, cars, trucks, outdoor cooking areas, gazebos and more. There was also wine sampling by SandCastle Winery, and beer tasting by Red Castle Micro-Brewery.In addition, a grill cooking demonstration was available with free food samples to the visitors. Also, a Kid's Corner and the Kid's Clinic were available for fun and activities. As part of their expedition through the Expo to visit the various businesses, visitors had the chance to register to win various items. If that wasn't enough, Responsible Recycling Services held an electronics recycling day where they assisted residences and small businesses in properly disposing of their electronic and universal waste as part of a no-charge drop-off service at the site for all electronics except for TVs and appliances containing freon.Platinum sponsors for the event were R.F. Ohl and Shawn Kresge Electric & AC Inc.For more information on the expo, visit
