Snow and ice cause crash in Tobyhanna

Snow and ice on a Monroe County road caused a two-vehicle crash.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the crash occurred at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday along Route 196 near Simmons Road in Tobyhanna.Police said Roberta L. Lewis of Tobyhanna was traveling southbound when she lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Malibu due to the road conditions and slid sideways into the northbound lane, where her vehicle collided into a 2008 Kia Optima, operated by Michelle R. Bernard, also of Tobyhanna.Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment.Police also reported on an accident at the Exxon Service Station along Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township, that happened about 1:06 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17.Police said Andrew Starkey, of Omaha, Neb., was pulling out of the service station when a trailer he was towing on his vehicle struck one of the gas pumps. As a result the pump leaked some fuel onto the property.The station was closed for about two hours due to the spill.Volunteers from the Tunkhannock Township Fire Company responded to the scene.
