Lehighton man pleads in 4 cases

A Lehighton man entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court in four pending criminal cases.

Jarred Ricky Lee West, 25, pleaded before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of theft by deception, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and driving under suspension and fleeing or attempting to elude police.The first count stems from an incident on Feb. 24, 2016, when he took a check belonging to awoman and cashed it at a local bank for $104.The drug count stems from an incident on Aug. 18, 2016, in the area of South First Street Lehighton where he was found unconscious in a stairwell. Methamphetamine was found on him.The DUI and suspension charges stem from an incident on Feb. 5, 2016, along South Street. Lehighton police responded to an crash scene in which West was the driver. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.The fleeing charge stems from an incident on Oct. 2, 2016, in Lehighton when police responded to an alarm at Dunbar Bottling along Maiden Lane. West was in a vehicle parked near the business and fled when police attempted to speak with him. He was later stopped.West is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges. Serfass deferred sentencing.
