Saturday was an evening of remembrance and bringing awareness to the dangers of addiction during the second annual Safer Streets for Tamaqua's Little Feet Out of the Darkness, Into the Light Candle Light Walk.

The event kicked off at the Tamaqua Bungalow Park on Catawissa Street and highlighted that in 2016, 45 lives in Carbon County and 77 lives in Schuylkill County were lost to addiction.The walk then proceeded down Broad Street and ended at the former CVS building.Following the walk, entertainment was provided by Jake Kulick, who performed a variety of songs, including "H," a poem of the struggles of addiction, written by Alex Sienkiewicz, who died of an overdose.Special guest, Vance Johnson, a former NFL Super Bowl champion wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, was also in attendance and spoke about his experiences with substance abuse, as well as his story of recovery and hope.The event ended with the lighting of the wishing lanterns, which allowed loved ones to send wishes to loved ones who were lost to show they will never be forgotten.
