NJ man charged with possession

A New Jersey man driving on Route 80 in Tobyhanna Township had 1,999 bags of heroin tucked next to his car's battery, police say.

William Christopher Harris, 38, of Irvington, was stopped for a lane violation by state trooper Gerald P. Lydon of the Fogelsville barracks at 6:47 p.m. Saturday.Lydon "observed several indications of criminal activity," according to a news release, and obtained Harris' consent to search the car.The search revealed the 40 bricks of heroin, and Harris was arrested.He is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; false identification to law enforcement; restrictions on use of limited access to highways; and drivers required to be licensed.Harris was arraigned before District Judge Kristina Anzini and remains in Monroe County prison under $100,000 bail.
