A Jim Thorpe man admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday to drunken driving and having his 2-year-old son in the vehicle. But it was not the first time he admitted driving drunk with his young child in the vehicle.

Michael Vincent Bocina, 25, pleaded before Judge Joseph J. Matika to driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child. The incident occurred April 8 along White Bear Drive. Summit Hill police responded to an accident report and found Bocina under the influence of a controlled substance. In the vehicle was Bocina’s young son, who was not properly placed in a safety seat.Matika asked Bocina, “What were you thinking?”Matika noted Bocina had a prior conviction for the same offense.On Aug. 15 Bocina pleaded to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.He was arrested by Jim Thorpe police along Lentz Trail following a drug investigation. In the vehicle with Bocina was the same child along with drugs in the back seat area.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II sentenced Bocina to serve three to six years in state prison after his plea.At that sentencing Bocina admitted to a long-term drug addiction problem. On Tuesday he told Matika he has been abusing drugs since age 12. He also said he hopes the state prison system’s drug treatment program will give him the help he needs.Matika sentenced him on the endangering count to serve six to 24 months in a state prison and four to 60 months on the DUI charge, with the terms running concurrent with each other and concurrent with the term imposed by Nanovic. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 100 hours of community service when released on parole, and pay court costs of about $1,000.
