A Lehighton man was found with drugs and a gun when police stopped him while he was allegedly shoplifting at the Walmart in Mahoning Township last month.

Daniel Snyder, 31, of Second Street was arrested after an incident that occurred at 2:20 a.m. Dec. 18.Police responded to Walmart for a report of a man in the store attempting to shoplift. Officers met with Snyder in the hardware section of the store and he agreed to follow them to the store’s office.Once inside, the officers patted down Snyder and found a handgun in the waistband of his pants which Snyder did not have a license to carry. Officers said the weapon contained a magazine with seven .45-caliber rounds, and one in the chamber. Another magazine with seven rounds was found in a holster.After discovering the weapon, police searched Snyder and found baggies with what they believed to be heroin and methamphetamine.Police transported Snyder to Mahoning Township Police Department. They searched a bag which had been taken from the vehicle which Snyder arrived in, and found brass knuckles, knives and ammunition for the weapon.Police said they also found a flare gun, pepper spray and suspected acid.Snyder has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm, a felony, as well as misdemeanor drug and retail theft charges. A preliminary hearing was held Jan. 11 before Senior Judge Edward M. Lewis, and all charges were bound for court.Snyder is still locked up in lieu of $50,000 bail.
