The Pleasant Valley School Board approved the 2011-2012 preliminary budget of $94,037,252 with a millage rate of 156.333 mill. This is up from last year's 2010-2011 budget of 143.290 mill. Business manager, Susan Famularo stated that there is uncertainty of what federal funding the district will receive until sometime in March.

The surrounding walls of the Pleasant Valley School District's adminstrative building's meeting room was covered in the creative artwork of its students in observance of School Board Appreciation Month, thanking the board for all they do for them.Michelle Heckman, a PVMS 7th grader, thanked the board and introduced a three-minute power point presentation made by Miss Garr's 7th grade homeroom titled, "Let Your Education Take Flight at PV."Mr. Drake, principal of PVMS presented each board member a basket filled with goodies from the school.Christine Heckelman, the student council represenatative to the board, presented certificates to each memberMr. Gress, principal of PVHS introduced a member from the sophomore (Rachel Kresge), junior (Laura Heckelman, president) and senior (Maggie Patterson, president) classes who each gave a small speech of appreciation to the board.PV resident Mrs. Heckelman voiced her appreciation and thanks to "everyone in the schools, principals, administration and teachers. I'm so very proud of our district."Mr. Gress noted that PVHS's Class of 2010 donated $2,000 to the Effort United Methodist Church's Supplemental Center.Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent thanked the board for their selfless time, noting that the members put in a lot of time and energy in what is a volunteer job.Susan Kresge, PVSD board president thanked everyone for their kind words and sentiments and said,"It's nice to know what we do is appreciated."Dr. Arnold noted that PVE collected 40 pairs of footwear that was donated to Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.Through the generosity of donations, PVE was able to give clothing, groceries and toys to 76 children in their school who were in need.PVMS collected $1,200 for weight equipment.PVHS football team participated in the Salvation Army holiday bell ringing campaign and reached a goal of $25,000.School board member James Spinola offered his thanks to PV's teachers and administration for helping the school board do their job. The costs for special education services are estimated to be $2,049,559.57. The final reconciliation of the charges is to be made by August of 2011.*Kenmark, Inc. Rental of $566 for backdrop screen of 14th Street (17'x 43') for the "Hello Dolly" PVHS musical.Approval was granted:*to approve the Colonial Intermediate Unit #20 2011-12 General Operating Budget (GOB) with Pleasant Valley's contribution to not to exceed $29,697.69. There is no increase from the 2010-11 GOB.*for a homestead adjustment in the amount of $459.88 for Homestead Application Parcel #6/8/11-2 for 2009-2010 tax bill. This is being recommended by the Monroe County Assessment Office due to their error. All filings were submitted in a timely manner by the taxpayer to the Monroe County Assessment Office.*to deny the request to forgive the penalty amount of $466.78 for Parcel #02/17B/1/235. Cost: $2,258.PVSD board of director James Spinola stated that he attended a conference and brought back two booklets from a vendor for review. One booklet was on teen suicide and the other was on bullying.
