The Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board, at its monthly meeting Monday evening, set the date for its annual convention of school directors from the 12 school districts which comprise the IU29 and announced the three state legislators and state senator representing Schuylkill County will be the speakers.

The convention will be held in the auditorium of the Maple Avenue Campus in Norwegian Township on Monday, March 14.The speakers will be State Senator David Argall and State Representatives Neal Goodman, Jerry Knowles and Michael Tobash. The keynote topic will be school district funding and a conversation with legislators to allow board members and school superintendents to engage legislators in dialogue related to school funding.The adult education courses for the Spring semester were announced and tuition fees set. Courses will be held at the North Campus, South Campus, Airport Campus and Lifelong Learning Center. Dr. Diane M. Niederriter, executive director of the IU, urges early registration. The class policy set requires a minimum of eight enrolles in order to start a class.Courses provided at the Lifelong Learning Center, located in the Schuykill Mall are:2011 Daytime Computer Classes. Intro to MIcrosoft Word 2007, tuition $75; Intro to Microsoft Excell 2007, tuition $75; Evening Compuer Classes in Intro to Computers, Basic Computer and Internet Skills II and Microsoft Word and Excel for Beginnes, tuition for each is $75. Pre-GED Instruction and Preparation classes which provides support in basic reading, writing and math skills, tuition, $85 for new students and $65 for returning students.Courses provided at the South Campus, Marlin, Norwegian Township, are:Drafting and Design Auto CAD classes which will provide in depth, hands-on instruction, tuition $375; Advanced Design I and II Auto CAD classes provide in depth, hands-on instruction in 3D solides, 3D images and 3D floor plans, tuition, $465; Computer NumericalControl with Mastercam Introduction , tuition, $235; Intermediate Computer Ndumerical Control (CNC) course, tuition, $235;

A. 500 Construction Safety Program Class. tuition, $175; Basic Plumbing and Heaing Class, tuition, $95; Welding Class, tuition, $350.Courses which will be presented at the North Campus, Frackville, are:Dental Assisting I Class is an introduction to a career in dental assisting, tuition, $560; Dental Assisting II Class is a continuation of Dental I, tuition, $560; Philbotomy Training For Medical Personal Class deals with collection of blood in treatment and prevention of disease, tuition, $100; Basic Life Support Classes/CPRE which covers basic life support instruction for healthcare providers, professional rescuers, lifegards or students, tuition, $80; Medical Office and Health Career Technician Class deal with mendical terminology and human anatony, tuition, $310 each level; Electromechanical Technology I Class which introduces the basic industrial electricity, tuition, $700.Also, Electromechanical Technology VIII Class is a study of fluid power operations used in industrial applications for power transmission and machine control, tuition, $700; Electormechanical Technology IX Class introduces students to robotics and their application in the industrial environment, tuition, $700; Auto Mechanics For Beginnners Class, tuition, $280;Courses to be presented at the Airport Campus at the Schuylkill County Airport are:Commercial Driving Training Classes, Hands On- training on late model tractors and trailers, tuition, $5,995; CDL Class B deals which prepares drivers for the CDL knowledge and skills tests, tuition, $1,695; Testing Only, Class A, using your vehicle, $250; usng school's vehicle, $300 and Class B, using your vehicle, $250; Heavy Equipment Class which teaches students how to safely operate large constructin equipment, backhoes, hydraulic excavators, track loaders, vibrating rollers, tuition, $8,795; Combination CDL/Heavy Equipment Training, tuition, $14,309.Accept grantThe board announced receiving a grant of $10,000 from the Highmark Foundation to be used to support the Maple Avenue Campus Healthy Walkign Path Project.Payments were approved to several school districts for instructional services and supplies utilized during the first quarter of the school year for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Pottsville Area, $3,650; Minersville Area, $7,649.44; Saint Clair Area, $21,729.69; Williams Valley HIgh School, $16,927.48; Williams Valley Middle School, $3,551.72; Shenandoah Valley High School and Middle School, each $12,794.The board approved a number of hirings:Teresa Spotts, Schuylkill Haven, as part-time teacher aide at the Maple Avenue Campus at $8.50 per hour; Alretta Schwenk, Auburn, as service coordinator int he Early Prevention Program, $47,390 per term; Rebecca Feako, Ashland, as part-time teacher aide at Schuylkill Technology Center, North Campus, at $8 per hour.The board approved the use of its Maple Avenue Campus cafeteria by the Schuylkill County Society for Crippled Children and Bayada Nurses, Home Health Care Specialists, Pedicatric Services, of Lehighton, to conduct a Pedriatic Trade Show on June 8.
