Christy Joy, 39, who resides in Norwegian Township, announced his candidacy for Schuylkill County Controller. Since 1996, he has been the owner and operator of Christy Joy Catering Service, Inc.
He graduated from Pottsville Area High School in 1990, and earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Lehigh University in 1994.In 2008, Jones & Co. P.C. hired Joy as a governmental auditor. He began work at L. Samuel Deegan CPA, P.C. in January 2010, preparing individual and corporate tax returns. Beginning in June 2010, he was instrumental in completing the county audit. Also in June 2010, Joy successfully passed the Certified Public Account exam, and will have his CPA license in April 2011."After completion of the audit, I felt compelled to run for controller to improve the financial reporting of the county. Without accurate and timely information, elected decision makers are left completely in the dark when they are spending taxpayers' money. With my governmental accounting and auditing experience, I believe I can efficiently supervise the fiscal affairs of the county, including the completion of the county's financial statements.""As a successful businessman, I learned to live on a budget and effectively manage business operations, and our county government must do the same. With my accounting background, I perform all budgeting, payroll, and purchasing for my catering service. I hold myself accountable to my customers, and as Schuylkill County Controller, I will be accountable to the taxpayers.""I learned that communication and working with other people are the keys to a successful business. The controller's office is not the only branch of government that could do a better job of treating people like customers, but it is the one where I can change the way people deal with each other."
