Nesquehoning's school board, after months of debate, finally made a decision to join with the Jim Thorpe Area School District. The vote on the controversial issue was split, 6-2, with one council member absent. Nesquehoning had its choice of affiliating with the Jim Thorpe district or with the new Panther Valley Joint School District, which comprises Lansford, Coaldale, and Summit Hill.
