Grocery, heating and gas bills may be rising like hot air balloons, but West Penn Township's property tax will likely stay the same for another year.

Supervisors on Nov. 23 approved a tentative 2011 spending plan that calls for the property tax to stay at 4.75 mills. That means the owner of a home whose taxable value is $25,000 would continue to pay $118.75 in annual township real estate tax next year.Currently, one mill generates $114,646.94, treasurer Karen Wittig has said. With the tax rate at 4.75 mills, the township expects to bring in about $544,573 in property tax revenue.The spending plan will be available for review at the township building on Municipal Road for 20 days; supervisors expect to adopt a final budget when they meet on Dec. 21.The balanced budget calls for revenues and expenditures of $1,829,751.The township plans to increase the amount given to Penn-Mahoning Ambulance from $20,000 this year to $30,000 next year. Ambulance president Don Hoppes in October told supervisors the organization will need a new ambulance in 2011.Supervisors also set aside money to lease a new police vehicle from the Kovach Corp. at $14,471 a year for three years, then buying it outright for $1. They also included $21,000 from state money for new road equipment.
