Two arrested for thefts from vehicles in Monroe

Two Luzerne County men have been charged in connection with break-ins of vehicles in Monroe County in which various items were taken.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police identified the two suspects as Andrew Elia, 24, and Patrick Ripley, 45, both of Wilkes-Barre.Police said that at about 4 a.m. on May 8, officers responded to the Forest Glen Community in Pocono Lake for a report of items stolen out of vehicles. The items taken included an iPad, GPS units, credit cards, wallets and pocketbooks.Through the course of the investigation, Pocono Mountain Regional Police detectives tracked an iPad to a location in Wilkes-Barre. Further investigation revealed that other stolen items were sold at pawn shops in Wilkes-Barre.Elia was identified as the person selling the items. The investigation further revealed that Ripley was with Elia at the time of the thefts. Police added that the credit cards that were stolen were used at various Walmart and convenience stores.Warrants were obtained for the two suspects charging them with theft, criminal conspiracy-theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, access device fraud, and loitering and prowling at night.Elia was arrested on May 27 in Wilkes-Barre and was arraigned before a district judge.He was committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $25,000 bail. Ripley was located by Wilkes-Barre police on May 29, police said, and arrested.Police said Elia is responsible for thefts from vehicles and subsequent credit card fraud throughout four townships in Luzerne County.
