A Jim Thorpe man, and three passengers in a vehicle he was driving, will all be cited by Tamaqua Police following a traffic stop on Owl Creek Road on June 1.
Patrolman Joseph Krebs was finishing up with an incident around midnight on May 31 when he saw a dark color Chrysler traveling west at a high rate of speed.The officer used his flashlight to try and get the driver's attention, but the vehicle did not slow down. Krebs then followed the Chrysler, initiating a traffic stop on Route 309.The driver was identified as Frederick J. McGill, 19, of 42 Sweet Briar Lane, Jim Thorpe. McGill and his passengers all exhibited signs of intoxication. McGill attempted to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital for blood work.Meanwhile, the three passengers were all given preliminary breath tests, which indicated all three had been drinking.McGill; Ilya Gazdick, 18, of 283 Unionville Road, Jim Thorpe; Cody Formisano, 19, of 3893 W. Main St., Belleville; and Anthony Mooney, 20, of 326 Wild Creek Drive, Jim Thorpe, were all cited for underage drinking.Additional charges are pending the results of the blood tests.Krebs was assisted at the scene by patrolman Corey Herring and West Penn patrolman Brent Getz.
