Schuylkill woman facing charges

A Schuylkill County woman is facing charges following incidents that occurred Friday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Mona Khalil, 60, of Shenandoah, was observed at 1:10 p.m. in Boscov's Department store in the Fairlane Village Mall, in Norwegian Township, attempting to leave the store with a purse valued at $165, without paying for it.Loss prevention personnel attempted to stop her but she refused and fled toward the Lowe's store parking lot.Loss prevention caught up with her in a rear parking area. While trying to restrain her she bit one of the employees.Once troopers arrived she refused to obey all commands and resisted until she was placed into handcuffs. Khalil then was transported to the barracks to be arraigned. While en route she showed signs of a medical emergency and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading for further treatment.Once she was released from the hospital, she was brought back to the barracks where she began acting out in an uncontrollable manner. She was then taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street in Pottsville, and committed to the mental health unit.Troopers said an arrest warrant has been secured charging her with simple assault, harassment, resisting arrest, and retail theft.Troopers said when Khalil is released from the hospital she will be arraigned on the charges before a district judge.
