A Monroe County man is facing charges following an incident that occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Western Pocono Jaycee Memorial Park, located along Molasses Valley Road, in Kunkletown in Polk Township.

State police at Lehighton said Jim Akers, 21, of Kunkletown, and a 19-year-old male from Saylorsburg, were leaving the park, with Akers driving the teen's vehicle. During this time Akers intentionally over accelerated the vehicle, causing it to fishtail out of control. The vehicle then slid down an embankment coming to rest against a metal fence.After the crash Akers and the teen engaged in a short verbal argument which became physical when Akers assaulted the teen by punching him in the face. After the assault Akers fled the scene while the teen called 911.Troopers said Akers was charged with driving under suspension-DUI related, leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and harassment.
