Carbon to add two cabins at Mauch Chunk Lake
Carbon County is adding to the number of cabins it has at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
On Thursday, the county commissioners opened bids for two additional cabin kits, which will be assembled in the park for campers to rent in the future.Two bids were received for the kits, as well as alternate bids for on-site assembly.Lancaster Log Cabins of Denver, Pennsylvania, submitted a bid of $33,900, with on-site assembly included, as well as a note regarding the size of the cabins.Conestoga Log Cabins Inc. of Lebanon submitted a bid of $40,754 and an additional cost of $11,400 for assembly.Commissioner William O'Gurek said the reason for the two additional cabins is due to the demand."We always sold them out almost entirely for the whole season," O'Gurek said. "Two more will help with the demand."Carbon County currently has 13 cabins in the park that are available to rent between April and October for a fee of $80 per night, with discounts for county residents and extended stays. Cabins include a full-sized bed, as well as four single bunk beds and a covered porch.In addition, there are 135 campsites available at the lake.The commissioners tabled the bids for two weeks to allow the purchasing department time to review the proposals and will either award the contract or reject the bids at the May 4 meeting.Other businessThe commissioners also approved the following items:• The resignation of Amy L. Lentini, Social Security Administration of Hazleton as the community representative for the AAA Advisory Board, effective April 12; and the appointment of Brian P. Harrison, Social Security Administration of Hazleton as the community representative to fill the term, which expires June 30.• The resignations of Samantha M. Jones of Summit Hill, park attendant, Mauch Chunk Lake Park effective April 18; and Briana L. Foster of Kunkletown, probation officer I, Adult Probation, effective May 3.• Bradley K. Billig of Palmerton, changed from part-time corrections officer to corrections officer, effective May 8.• Chad A. Maleski of Weatherly, from part-time corrections officer to part-time corrections officer/Teamsters, effective April 24.• Jenni K. Hoffman of Lehighton, from part-time dispatcher to 911 operator, Communications Center, effective April 25.
