John Garrett, 47, of 635 Arlington St., Tamaqua, has been cited by Tamaqua Police for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers were conducting a roving DUI patrol at 1:20 a.m. on July 26, when they saw a green GMC make an illegal turn from Cedar on to Center Street. The GMC then traveled north until pulling into a parking space in the first block of Mauch Chunk Street.The driver was identified as Garrett, who smelled of alcohol and showed signs of being drunk. He admitted to drinking one half-hour earlier and was only out to "pick up a friend."In addition to the alcohol he had consumed, Garrett told the officer he had medical problems and had also taken multiple prescription medications, including Percocet and Vicodin.He was given, and failed, field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test indicated a 0.25 BAC, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08. Garrett refused to submit to blood tests.He was transported home and faces charges of driving under the influence as well as traffic offenses.
