Tobyhanna man sought in assault

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Monroe County man who assaulted his girlfriend while armed with a knife.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said the incident occurred at 1:36 a.m. Sunday at 3307 Woodland Drive in Tobyhanna.At that time, Pocono Mountain Regional Police responded to Woodland Drive in A Pocono Country Place for a reported domestic assault involving Marcelino Mendez-Ruperto, 38, and a 34-year-old woman, both of Tobyhanna.Police were advised a male on scene was armed with a knife. Upon arrival, police made contact with the victim, who advised them that her boyfriend, Mendez-Ruperto, assaulted her and threatened to kill her.The woman had visible injuries to her face and about her body. She told police Mendez-Ruperto had a knife while threatening her, kicked her in the face several times, bit her, and slashed the tires to her car when she tried to leave.The woman told police that Mendez-Ruperto left before their arrival.She was treated by Pocono Mountain Regional EMS on scene, and went to the hospital with a relative.An extensive search of the area for Mendez-Ruperto was unable to locate him.A warrant is being issued for his arrest on charges of terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, simple assault and summary offenses.
