A Schuylkill County woman was jailed early today on assault charges after she attacked a man with a meat cleaver.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred at 12:35 a.m. in Eldred Township. Troopers said Melody Shingara, 52, and Scott Meyer, 55, both of 93 Ridge Road in the village of Pitman were involved in an altercation.During the altercation Shingara began swinging a meat cleaver and filet knife at Myer, which struck him on each hand. Troopers did not indicate if Myer required medical attention.Shingara was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and related counts.She was arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
