A Schuylkill County driver fell asleep at the wheel of his car and crashed. The incident occurred at 2:02 p.m. on Saturday along Schuylkill Mountain Road in South Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Thomas J. Bettinger, 38, of Pottsville, was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla eastbound when he fell asleep. The vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole with the right front end. After impact the car continued east before coming to rest about 35 feet east of the point of impact.Bettinger sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. He was cited for the crash, troopers said.
