Tamaqua driver facing DUI charge

Tamaqua police have cited Keith Sterling McFarland, 35, of 212 N. Greenwood St., Tamaqua, following a traffic stop on Sept. 27.

At 2 a.m. officers were monitoring traffic when they heard a revving engine in the area near Burger King. They saw a blue Jeep Wrangler parked in the drive-through area. The driver kept revving the engine for several minutes, then pulled through the drive-through area and made a right turn on to Center Street. Despite the traffic light showing a steady red signal the driver kept going, then made a left turn into the Fegley Mini Mart lot.The officer made a traffic stop and identified McFarland as the driver. A strong odor of alcohol was coming from the Jeep and the driver's speech was slurred.McFarland was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.He was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and traffic offenses.
