State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.
A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:20 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Route 903 and Maury Road in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said John S. Tyahla, 27, of Palmerton, was stopped at a stop sign on Maury Road operating a 2007 Dodge Caravan.Tyahla pulled out and began turning left to merge onto 903 southbound. While pulling across the northbound lane, his vehicle was struck by a 2011 Hyundai driven by Andrea M. Buyce, 34, of Coaldale.After impact the Dodge spun counterclockwise and came to rest facing north. The Hyundai came to rest facing north straddling the double yellow line.Neither Tyahla, Buyce, nor her passengers, Paula J. Horowski, 34, and an 8-year-old female, both of Jim Thorpe, were injured. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.Troopers cited Tyahla for a stop sign violation.Troopers also reported on a crash that occurred at 4:08 p.m. on Oct. 6 along Interchange Road in Franklin Township.Troopers said Brett D. Kerschner, 19, of Andreas, was driving a 2008 Volkswagen GTI southbound when he fell asleep at the wheel, police said. The car drifted off the road on the west side and hit a steel mailbox with the passenger side front tire. After impact the GTI slid through a yard and into a flower bed before coming to rest facing west.Kerschner and his passenger, Anthony Thorpe, 27, of Jim Thorpe, were not injured. The GTI was towed from the scene.Kerschner was cited for the crash.
