Two cited for stealing metal

Coaldale police cited two people for stealing metal from mine company property in the Springdale section of the borough.

Officers received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle, a dark green Su-baru, that was circling around the Fourth and Lehigh streets area. They went to the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle on the street.An officer then checked a nearby wooded area and found a green Subaru parked along a trail. A man next to the car placed something onto the rear seat of the vehicle. That man was identified as Mark Anthony Bauder Jr., 23, of 35 W. Ruddle St., Coaldale. Bauder told police he and a friend were retrieving scrap metal from the ditches and trails.The officer walked past the car and found a red wagon containing three duffel bags filled with various pieces of metal, screws, nuts, bolts and pins.Walking toward the parked car was a 17-year-old male, coming from the direction of the mining company trailers at Third Street. Under questioning, both males admitted the scrap metal was taken from the trailers.Both were charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass.
