I-81 crash results in severe damages

One vehicle was severely damaged in a crash at 2:55 a.m. today on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said Mark Gibson, 58, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, was driving a 2011 Nissan Murano southbound in the right lane of traffic when he fell asleep.Police said the vehicle traveled off the western berm and struck a guard rail, before traveling back across both southbound lanes of the interstate and into the median where it struck several trees. Police said the car came to rest in the median facing a southern direction.Police said Gibson refused medical treatment at the scene.He will be cited in the incident.The vehicle was towed from the scene by Hoffman's Towing.Police were assisted at the scene by the Ryan Township Fire Company and Mahanoy City Ambulance.
