A Kunkletown man was charged with reckless driving in a hit-and-run crash Saturday in Franklin Township.

State police at Lehighton said Gerard G. Nieroda, 22, was northbound on Interchange Road, near the intersection with Route 248, when his 2000 Pontiac Sunfire hit the back of a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Glenn T. Silfies, 53, of Palmerton, just before 4:30 p.m.Silfies' vehicle, police said, was stopped due to traffic.Nieroda continued to push the Cruze from behind, nearly striking Silfies, who got out of his vehicle to confront him.Police said Nieroda crossed into the southbound lane and nearly struck oncoming traffic as he fled the scene.Nieroda was later located at his residence and under the influence of a controlled substance, according to police.He refused a blood test.
