Rush Township Police said two Tamaqua residents are facing retail-theft charges after a shopping trip on Jan. 25.

Police said Phillip Brinich, 35, and Ashley Balliet, 28, are facing charges of theft by deception, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy after the pair fraudulently returned items to the customer service desk at Walmart that were not their items.Sgt. Duane Frederick said the pair was given separate gift cards and went shopping with those gifts cards.The two purchased some items, but never paid for other items.The offenses happened on the same day.
