A Philadelphia man has been cited for driving too fast for conditions after he lost control of his vehicle and slid into a stopped bus Friday afternoon.
State Police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at around 3:15 p.m. along state Route 903 at its intersection with Yellow Run Road, which was snow-covered at the time of the crash.A 2010 Volkswagen SE2.1 operated by Danio O. Ohara, 29, of Philadelphia, was traveling southbound on 903 approaching Yellow Run Road on a downhill grade as a 2002 school bus operated by Robert L. Bolton, 70, of Jim Thorpe, was traveling northbound on 903 at Yellow Run Road.The bus was completely stopped in the northbound lane of Yellow Run Road for the purpose of discharging students, and did have its emergency flashers activated.The Volkswagen attempted to slow down and stop in the southbound lane, lost control, and slid into the northbound lane and hit the front of the bus, which came to final rest on the east shoulder of Route 903 facing northeast. The bus was at final rest in the northbound lane at the point of impact facing north.The Volkswagen was towed from the scene by Schliers Towing. One female passenger was transported to Lehighton Hospital for minor injuries, while Ohara was also transported to Lehighton Hospital for minor injuries.There were no other injuries reported at the scene.Ohara was not using any safety equipment at the time of the crash. Bolton was wearing his lap and shoulder belt.Also assisting at the scene were Cpl. Borosh, the Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company, Lehighton EMS, Lake Harmony EMS, and Schliers Towing.Three citations were filed against Ohara.
