It only took a Tamaqua woman one week before she began stealing from her new employer, officials say.

Vanessa L. Miller, 28, was hired Dec. 2 at the HT Commons Walmart in Rush Township. On Dec. 9, she began stealing cash from her register drawer. Over 18 days, she managed to steal $2,422.16 from the retail store.She was arrested by Rush Township Police and arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer on Jan. 6, charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Miller was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for noon on Jan. 23.
