William George Manness Jr., 34, of Tamaqua, has been charged after a disturbance in Tamaqua on Feb. 8.
Police were dispatched to Rowe Street at 4:30 a.m. to deal with a disturbance. They spoke with a man who said Manness had entered a residence on Pine Street while the occupants were sleeping. He fled after they awoke and asked him what he was doing there. That's when the victim noticed his white LG cellphone was missing.Manness was found a short time later in the area of Market Street. He did have a white LG phone on his person, which he claimed was his. He was transported to the police station and the victim was contacted.At the station the victim confirmed the phone was his by unlocking it with the correct password and showing officers photos of his family.The phone is valued at $200.Manness was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, who set bail at $25,000 straight cash. Unable to post bond, Manness was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
