A Coaldale man was cited after he was found riding a bike in the middle of Route 209 at 3:03 a.m. on Sept. 17.

A Coaldale police officer was on patrol when he saw Daniel Schwertfeger, 25, of West Phillips Street, riding the bike, which didn't have lights, in the middle of the highway.Schwertfeger appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and a hypodermic needle could be seen sticking out of his pocket. A search also discovered a long glass pipe and a silver cylinder containing a crystal like substance. The crystal field tested positive for methamphetamine.He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a bike without the required lamp between sunset and sunrise and riding a bike on the roadway, not the shoulder.
