Police release details of holiday checkpoint
State police at Lehighton have made several DUI arrests and issued traffic citations over recent days.
• Holiday checkpoint: The results of a Thanksgiving Day holiday DUI checkpoint operation resulted in five motorists arrested for DUI, 10 misdemeanor drug possession arrests and the issuance of 24 traffic citations.• Drug charges: A traffic stop led to the arrest of a passenger after state police initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation around midnight on Nov. 23 along Lizard Creek Road in East Penn Township, Carbon County.A passenger in the vehicle, George Szacska, of 1630 Smith Lane Road, Lehighton, was arrested for drug possession, troopers said.• Blakeslee man facing DUI: State police said a 21-year-old Blakeslee man is facing charges of driving under the influence as a result of a traffic stop they made at 3:02 a.m. Nov. 23 on Route 115 in Saylorsburg.The man was stopped for summary violations of the Motor Vehicle Code, after which time it was determined he was driving under the influence. Charges are pending the results of laboratory testing.• Stopped in Lehighton: A 41-year-old Lehighton man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a traffic stop made by state police 9:15
p.m.Saturday.The man was stopped at the intersection of East Alley and Carbon Street, after which time it was determined he was under the influence.He was taken to the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, for a blood test. Charges are pending the laboratory test results.• Facing charges: A 20-year-old Summit Hill man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance as a result of a traffic stop made by state police at the barracks at 9:12 p.m. Nov 22.Police said they stopped the man driving a Ford Focus in the area of Route 902, near East Bertsch Street, in Lansford, for a Motor Vehicle Code violation.After determining he was under the influence of a controlled substance, the driver was taken for a blood test.Charges are pending the result of laboratory test results.Police said he is also facing charges of possession of a controlled substance.Police did not release names of those charged.
