Two men were cited after a traffic stop in McAdoo on Nov. 18.
An officer was on patrol at 9:23 p.m. when he saw a green Honda, with a nonworking passenger side brake light, being driven on South Kennedy Drive. He made a traffic stop and identified the driver as Brandon Luis Ortiz Smith, 32, of McAdoo. A strong odor of marijuana came from the car and its occupants, leading the officer to ask if there was anything illegal in the car. He was told there wasn't.Ortiz-Smith and his front-seat passenger, William Edmond Smith III, 29, of Allentown, were searched, with nothing found on either of them.As the officer spoke with the men, Smith asked if he could retrieve his wallet, which was on the car roof. When told yes, he grabbed the wallet, but also reached inside the car to snag a soda can. The officer took the can, which was actually a device with a hidden compartment made to look like a Coca-Cola can.Inside the compartment were a blunt and marijuana residue.A further search of the Honda turned up a Maverick cigarette pack containing a glass pipe with residue that field tested positive for marijuana. Both men were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and Ortiz-Smith was also cited for driving with a suspended license.
